Geeks?

Today in the gym locker room I was getting ready for work after PT.
This women was talking about how she feared her son would become a geek. Or she didn't want him to become too much of a geek. Or be smart enough for Kindergarten or whatever. She also spoke about she also feared her son might be gay. Some others in conversation started to talk about some other little boys wearing his mom's pantyhose and high heels and this other little boy wearing his sisters slippers.

I have to say I was pretty annoyed by this. First of all, what defines someone being a nerd/geek? His love of underground music, science fiction, space, science or anything that requires to think beyond what's on TV, what his friends are doing, or what the girl next door isn't wearing? Why is this bad? Why do ignorant parents want their children to fit in with the norm of their peer group so badly? Do you think that Steve Jobs or Stephen Hawking, Thomas Edison, Albert Einstein fit in with their peer group? No. They didn't.

Second. SO WHAT if your little boy wants to wear what mommy has. It doesn't mean they are going to be gay or have homosexual tendencies. It means he wants to be like his mommy! Children do not understand the roles of men and women in society yet. And they don't need to. He will learn by going out in public and seeing how they behave. So what if he doesn't want to conform to that. That view of men and women was created by men and women. And that is slowly changing. The roles of men and women are slowly changing.

Third. So what if your child is gay. That is HIS/HER choice. Not yours. You really can't teach a child what about sexuality is correct. There is NO correct way to be sexual. The only thing weird about sexuality is to not be sexual. People should be loving and supportive of the choices their children make. They don't need anymore pressure from you that they aren't already receiving from society to fit in.
You can teach your child safe sex practices, birth control and help them make choices that keep them safe. Abstinence only sex education doesn't work. Humans are sexual being and if they are uneducated they end up with diseases and children they do not want to have.

What is so great about our society? It's based on Christian/Capitalist ideas that ARE NOT WORKING!!! Look at what is going on with our economy! We are SO ethnocentric is disgusting. However, so is every other society on this planet. They teach patriotism and to love your culture and country. Every other culture and economic systems are bad! Democracy and capitalism must prevail. (How many countries has the US tried to take over and make them democratic/capitalist? Look it up. We are 'freeing' them from their repressers. When capitalism is much worse. Giant profit driven corporations take over those countries and put into power who they want and demolish the poor/middle class to be their slaves. (technically, in a democratic society, true capitalism(free enterprise system) can't exist together)
